Introduction: The Van de Graaff Generator is a classic interactive exhibit that demonstrates electrostatic phenomena in a safe and visually striking way. It allows visitors to experience the effects of electric charge directly.
Challenge: The challenge was to construct a visually appealing and robust exhibit that safely demonstrates high-voltage phenomena while remaining accessible and intuitive for a wide audience.
Solution: We built a solid structure with a polished metal dome, a visible belt transmission system housed in a transparent tube, and an insulated platform for user interaction. The system generates high voltage at extremely low current, ensuring safety. A discharge electrode was included to demonstrate electrical sparks for observers.
Result: The exhibit delivers a powerful and memorable demonstration of electrostatics. Visitors gain a direct understanding of electric charge, repulsion, and electric fields, while the durable construction ensures long-term reliability in public spaces.
