Introduction: The project involved creating an exhibit that demonstrates the effect of a vanishing cat on a screen. Visitors are challenged to match the background color in such a way that the cat disappears, showcasing the concept of camouflage in a fun and interactive manner.
Challenge: We had only 10 days to produce the components for 7 exhibits with stringent precision requirements. The tabletops needed to have a thickness tolerance of up to 0.1mm, and the legs had to be perfectly flush with the tabletop surface. The tight deadline and high level of precision required for the components posed significant challenges.
Solution: To achieve the required level of precision, we meticulously crafted the legs to ensure they neither protruded above nor sat below the tabletop surface. Using a CNC milling machine, we created the mounts for the potentiometers, and we 3D printed the sliders for the RGB controls. We supplied all the necessary components for the assembly of the exhibit, which features three RGB sliders that allow visitors to adjust the background color and attempt to make the cat vanish on the monitor screen.
Result: We successfully produced and delivered all the components for the 7 exhibits within the tight 10-day deadline, meeting the client’s expectations for precision and quality. Once assembled, the Vanishing Cat exhibit provides an engaging and interactive experience for visitors, allowing them to explore the concept of camouflage while enjoying the challenge of making the cat disappear.
